News From Kenya

January 17, 2008:

Dear Saints,

Greetings from Nairobi in the name of Jesus our Lord.  Thank you so much for your prayers. Unfortunately the after math has caused a lot of pain and suffering.   Many people have been displaced from their homes. Among them our own Jamii children and the volunteers who are now in a rescue centre at the Nairobi International show grounds (15 minutes from Kibera). Our building in Kibera was  looted of everything.  We thank God it was not burned down.

We have been holding prayer meetings at the rescue centre everyday for the last three days and we have witness the hand of God through the response of many people coming into the knowledge of Jesus. We have seen them being transformed through the worship and dancing for the Lord.   We plan to stay here for a while and continue ministering to them until sufficient help comes. There are a lot of charitable organizations that are involved in feeding and provide medical help as well.

There are so many children at the rescue centre that the mattresses and blankets are not enough.  Most of the children are sleeping on cold concrete. Others have no clothes to change or shoes. I have been busy organizing with friends and churches to see how we can help. Any assistance also from the church would be highly appreciated.

In Nakuru the situation is even worse because the violence was intense in the Riftvalley. A lot of people who were evacuated from their farms are camping at the fair grounds in Nakuru.   The pastors and church leaders are busy ministering to the needs of all the victims. I spoke to Maryanne and she told me she had gone to look for the orphans at the fairgrounds but the crowd was overwhelming.  Hopefully she will find them soon.

We truly thank you for your prayers during these difficulty times in our beloved nation. We urge you to continue praying because we have seen the political temperatures cool faster than we expected due to the power of prayers.

Blessings
Maurice
